Though officially it might take bit long to get hands on KitKat Android 4.4 update on Sony Xperia devices. XDA devs have contributed for almost every Xperia device to get unofficially CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat build on them even some of the 2011 Xperia devices have got it.

0 How To Root Xperia Z

Xperia Z is the sony's flagship device for the year 2013, The phone is quite awesome in its hardware specs and software as well. rooting will make this device awesome in all aspects including many mind blowing mods. Here is the most simple and easy way to root xperia z c6602 & c6603 models.

Things You Need To Begin :

• Xperia Z - C6602 or C6603
• Easy Rooting Toolkit v19 - Link
• ABD Drivers - Link

Check Twice before you proceed : 

• Make sure that your device is at least 75% charged.
• Back up everything you feel is important before you begin.
• Increase Time-Out time to 10min (setting>display>sleep)
• Enable debugging mode on your phone (setting>developer options)
• Enable unknown sources (setting>security)

Sony has recently updated Xperia ZL to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 , the update is available on PC Companion & SUS as well. If you have not received update you can manually update to Jellybean 4.2.2 as well.

Although there might be small changes but its still significant :

1. LOCK SCREEN

 

• Feature to add lock screen widgets
• Swipe left or right to access widget
• On right swipe we get direct access to Camera
• On left we get a + button to add new widgets like email, gmail, google now, digital clock, google plus

2. HOME SCREEN

  

• Transparent Navigation Bar (Onscreen buttons) and System Bar WOW!!
• New Toggles in the system bar bigger size and option to chose our toggles in display settings
• The Notifications now also display time remainig while a download is going on
• The transparent NavBar is only for the Home Screen elsewhere it is the same Black Bar

3. RECENT APPS/ TASK MANAGER

  

• The position of app screenshots is in the centre now
• Instead of + at the right end now we get a arrow up at the starting left
• Clicking on the arrow opens a list of all small apps available
• By default a new small app for browser has been added

4. SETTINGS

• The first thing we notice is the missing developer options tab which can be activated by tapping Build Number in about phone tab in setting a number of times

0 Update Xperia ZL C6502 4.2.2 Jelly Bean 10.3.A.0.423 firmware ftf

Sony has officially rolled out just Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean 10.3.A.0.423 firmware for Xperia ZL C6502, the Indian version. The other versions of Xperia ZL ( C6503, C6506 ) are also been updated. Previously Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean 10.1.1.A.1.253 was on Xperia ZL.

How To Update Xperia ZL To Jelly Bean 4.2.2 ?
Just flash the recent firmware using flashtool on your xperia zl.

Few things you will need :- 

• Xperia ZL
• Flashtool
• FTF file - 10.3.A.0.423 for Xperia ZL

Confirm Twice before you proceed 

• Your Phone must have unlocked bootloader. 
• Make sure that your device is at least 75% charged.

0 How Update Any Xperia Phone Using FTF File & Flash Tool

Why do we need to use FTF file to update xperia phones, when we can update using PC Companion and Sony Update Service (SUS) ?

The following are the advantages :

• Re-update easily without internet connection.

Note : Follow every Step carefully, any damage caused to your phone will be your responsibility. Although the method is verified.

Step 1 :  Download the Flash tool and install it. Open "C:\Flashtool\drivers"

Run the program “Flashtool-drivers” as Admin. Check the option “”Select components to install” and find the phone for which you want to flash the ftf file. Select both ”Flashmode drivers” and “Fastboot drivers”. Click the “install” button and wait till drivers are installed on your PC.

Now open ”C:\Flashtool\firmwares”, copy paste the downloaded ftf file specific to your xperia device & latest firmware.

Run FlashTool 

Step 2 : Switch off your xperia,wait for 30 seconds, Insert USB Cable in PC first & hold “Volume Down” button while you insert cable in Xperia phone. Green light in notification LED confirms that phone has been connected successfully.

Step 3 : Notice the “Black Thunder” option in the top most left corner. Click & Choose option “flashmode”.

Click  “Select source folder” and select the copied ftf file from “C:\Flashtool\firmwares” and check the option “Wipe Data”. Under option “Misc” , check mark the option “No Final verification” if you are on Android 4.0.4 ICS Stock version.

Click OK, now Flashtool will prepare files for flashing & flash the selected ftf file on your xperia device.

 Note : Start the phone once the flashing is done. The first reboot will be very slow. after that.
